Detoxing

Time For A New Body.
The old one desperately needed an overhaul after I'd gorged on practically every treat offered over Christmas and New Year. Hoping for a miracle, I went along to see intuitive nutritionist Stephanie Lashford who has spent 22 years developing the Lashford Technique via her unusual approach to environmental and nutritional medicine.

I was asked to take a list of everything I had eaten during the previous week. Organic brown rice, oily fish, turkey, steamed vegetables, fresh fruits and porridge were interspersed with liberal helpings of black forest gateau and mince pies. Even health writers need to have some fun...

After studying my list, Stephanie tuned into my auric field and pronounced: "For a start your joints ache, especially your knees - which is being triggered by something in your diet. You have been eating too much flour, and this has dried your system and sufficient lubrication is not getting to your joints even though you eat plenty of oily fish."

Seven-Day Plan
She was spot on. Stephanie suggested that for at least 7 days, I remove from my diet all foods I had eaten during the previous 6 weeks. I was also to eliminate all foods containing flour, dairy products or sugar in any form from my diet until day 8. I could eat foods such as duck, Guinea fowl, hake, mackerel and turbot, vegetables such as okra, red cabbage, spinach, swede, yams and pak choi.

If I became hungry in between meals I could either eat home made vegetable soup or a little fruit. Papaya and pineapple were the only fruits allowed as they are packed with digestive enzymes.

Stephanie then used kinesiology, a form of muscle testing to check for possible food intolerances. When phials containing wheat, rice, coffee, maize and sugar cane were placed in my hand I became as weak as a kitten trying to resist her as she pushed my hand downwards.

Expelling Toxins
She said I should avoid these foods for the 8 days and then only eat them in moderation after my de-tox week. She warned me that I might get worse before I got better, and she wasn't kidding. By day 3 my tongue was heavily coated and I had a dreadful thirst as the toxins started to ease out of my system.

At the same time the bags under my eyes became blacker for a couple of days but then things started to improve.

But after a week, my brain is sharper, my waist and hips smaller, and the aching in my joints has now virtually disappeared.

Stephanie Lashford practises in London, Manchester and Cardiff. For details call 01222 747507.
