Don't go to a resort with scores of advanced runs, as you'll be paying for facilities you can't use. Intermediate Is there a good range of suitable runs? Does the resort cover a large ski area? How many lifts are there? Do they link to adjacent valleys? Advanced Is there a sufficient range of skiing to keep you happy for the whole holiday? Does the ski pass let you try other nearby resorts? Is there any good off-piste skiing? Does the resort over-groom the slopes?   Piste maps are a good starting point when you are choosing a ski area.
