Click for the full exerciseLearn to use the ski for what it has been designed, enjoy skiing faster round the curve and not directly down the hill.

This provides the sensation of speed, power and control, which will give an awesome ride!

'Carving round Curves' provides the best mental picture for 'skiing faster' with modern skis.

The Pockit Book - Catch the train

TIPS FOR CARVING
Select the appropriate slope and gradient.

Focus on the curve the ski is making on the snow.

EXERCISE FOR SKIING FASTER - Catch the Train
Following is a great way to gain constant feedback.

WHY?

A great way to test your skill.
Learn how to accelerate and decelerate.
 Great fun!

HOW?

Photo 1

Allow a fellow skier of a similar or slightly better level to lead the way. Make sure you are close behind as soon as the leader sets off.

Concentrate on watching the tracks in the snow of the skier you are following. Follow in these tracks as best you can.

If you are the skier in front try to make your turns rhythmic, concentrate on making curves and gaining speed around the curve not down the hill.

Photo 4
Don't mirror (copy) the skier in front. Concentrate on the line and following.

WHERE?

Open pisted slope, not busy or too steep.

TIPS
Focus
When following, focus directly on the line of the skier, not the skier themselves. When leading make smooth carved turns, gaining speed around the curve not down the hill.

Imagery
: Imagine you are a train with carriages winding down a mountain pass without brakes! Luckily the tracks bend in smooth curves that enable you to control your speed and direction!

Feedback
Finding it difficult to keep up and follow? You are probably turning your skis too much at the start of the turn as you change direction, remember to WAIT, feel for the edge to push against.

DON'T TURN THE SKIS/FEET.

TOP TIP
Watch the tracks not the skier!
