| A Day in the Life of Sarah |
| Services Manager - My Day |
Verbier, St Anton and Chamonix -
1999 / 2000
Every day is different and that is what is so appealing about the job. The
Services Manager is responsible for the smooth running of a certain number
of resorts.
This includes supporting all of the staff, making sure that
the standards of cooking and cleaning are kept up and generally problem
solving wherever I am which could mean that I suddenly have to cook in a
chalet for 20 people and have just 1 hour to produce a 4 course meal and
canapés. I am also an advice line for the chefs and chalet hosts for example;
I help with special dietary requirement menus and shopping.
The area that I cover is very large and the driving is the least favourite
part of the job. I cover an area from France, through Switzerland and into
Austria working in all Simply Ski chalets in my area.
I generally try and start work at the same time as the chalet staff in the
morning, helping with breakfast and the preparation of food for that day.
It is a time for me to get to know the staff and give them hints and advice
from my experience.
I then have the time to address any cleaning issues
that may have arisen and if necessary, clean the chalet with the staff to
show the exact standards that we expect. I then usually have a chance to
ski if everything is under control. I will meet with the Resort Manager
in the afternoon and discuss any matters that have arisen. After this I
will then go and help in another chalet so that I can maximise the number
of people that I can work with in a visit.
It is a great job. I get to meet and work with a large number of staff,
I get to ski in all of the resorts that I work in and I decide on my own
timetable allowing me to be flexible.
