Alpe d'Huez is considered a good all-round resort - diverse and with a modern lift system. All levels of skier should find something there to challenge them, with a 2230m vertical drop and a 16km black run considered two of its biggest pulls. Off-piste skiing is excellent, with decent snowfalls, beautiful scenery and sunnier-than-average weather. However, advanced skiers will groan when the weather worsens, as many of the tougher slopes become inaccessible.
